October is Infant Safe Sleep Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness about safe sleep and help make sure families have the information and support they need to create safer sleep environments for babies.
Every baby deserves a safe place to sleep, and every family deserves to have the information and resources that help them make informed choices. But raising awareness about safe sleep isn’t just about what families know. It’s about what all of us can do to help share the message.
Know safe sleep.
Safe sleep practices can reduce the risk of sleep-related infant deaths, including sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) and other sleep-related dangers.
Whether you’re a parent, grandparent, family member, child care provider, health professional or friend, you may play a role in caring for a baby. Knowing the basics of safe sleep means you can help support families and share accurate information when it matters.
You can learn more about safe sleep, including recommendations and resources for families and caregivers, on our Safe Sleep web page.
Share safe sleep.
Awareness matters because safe sleep information needs to reach the people who care for babies.
During Infant Safe Sleep Awareness Month, we’re asking everyone to help spread the word. Share a safe sleep reminder with your community. Include information in your organization’s newsletter. Post on social media. Start a conversation with a parent or caregiver.
You don’t have to be a safe sleep expert to help raise awareness. You just have to share the message.
To make it easy, we’ve created a Safe Sleep Awareness Month Toolkit with ready-to-use content you can share throughout October.
Here are a few examples:
Share it in your newsletter:

Share it on social media:

Every time we share accurate information, we create another opportunity for a family or caregiver to learn about safe sleep.
So, know safe sleep. Share safe sleep. And help us build communities that understand, support, and uplift families this October.
