WHEN: Monday, April 29, 2019
- Pinwheel giveaway: 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 pm, while supplies last.
- Museum hours: 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 pm
WHERE: Children’s Museum of Denver at Marsico Campus, 2121 Childrens Museum Dr, Denver, Colorado 80211
WHY: By its very nature, the pinwheel connotes whimsy and childlike notions – it has come to serve as a reminder of the safe, stable, and nurturing childhoods we want for all children. It is the national symbol for child abuse prevention. The pinwheel is an uplifting reminder of childhood and the bright futures all children deserve. Search #Pinwheels4Prevention to see just some of the pinwheels activities all over Colorado.
VISUALS/INTERVIEW OPPORTUNITIES: Sometimes simply mentioning the words “child abuse prevention” can spark a naturally hesitant reaction from some parents to stop and talk about a subject that should be centered on ways communities can strengthen families.
Witness Illuminate Colorado use the pinwheel to engage Coloradans in a conversation centered on ways to build brighter childhoods in Colorado – in essence screaming the solution, while whispering the problem.
