At Illuminate Colorado, we’re always working to make our programs, trainings, and resources more relevant and effective because we know that small improvements can have a big impact. That’s why we’ve refreshed the name and description of one of our key trainings to better reflect what it offers to anyone who has a child in their life.

Introducing Navigating the Talk: Supporting Healthy Sexual Development

Formerly titled “What to Expect When Talking the Talk,” this course helps adults feel confident and prepared to support children’s healthy sexual development—at any age. Whether you’re a parent navigating a toddler’s curiosity, an educator fielding middle school questions, or a professional working with families and helping parents and caregivers find the right words to say, this course gives you the tools to have open, age-appropriate conversations.

And while the name and description have changed, the content remains the same. If you’ve already taken “What to Expect When Talking the Talk,” there’s no need to retake this training.

Why It Matters

Trainings like Navigating the Talk are a key part of how we work toward our mission to strengthen families, organizations, and communities to prevent child maltreatment.

Development is a normal part of childhood, and that includes sexual development. Adults play a critical role in shaping kids’ understanding of their bodies, boundaries, and relationships. When we provide consistent, supportive information at every stage of development, we help create a culture where children are more likely to come to trusted adults with questions or concerns—and less vulnerable to abuse or exploitation.

These conversations aren’t always easy. But with the right tools, they can become a powerful way to build trust and resilience.

Start the Conversation. Learn More.

Navigating the Talk is part of a collection of child sexual abuse prevention trainings available through TipColorado.org, one of our go-to resources for anyone looking to grow their skills in keeping kids safe.

Whether you’re just starting to explore this topic or you’re ready to dive deeper, there’s a training for you.

Thank you for being part of the movement to protect and support kids—one conversation at a time.
