Tax Credit Highlights
Tax credits can reduce the amount of taxes a person owes and potentially increase their refund if they qualify. Get Ahead Colorado’s Federal and State Tax Credits page provides a broad overview of all tax credits available.
Colorado’s new Family Affordability Tax Credit (FATC) and the federal and state Child Tax Credit (CTC) payments provide parents with extra income that can go toward what they need most, like healthy groceries, transportation, or child care.
Filing Your Taxes
There are many options to file taxes and some options that are free! Plus, did you know that you can file for tax credits up to 3 years past? Check out the different options here:
Get free in-person tax filing from an IRS-certified tax preparer at a Colorado Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA). VITA services are free, accurate, and trusted sources for preparing tax returns. If you have a situation where you’re unsure about filing, VITA sites will help you prepare but it’s up to you to submit.

Illuminate Supports Economic Supports for Families
Tax credits, such as the FATC, EITC, and CTC, promote concrete supports for families, a research-informed protective factor in preventing child maltreatment. Illuminate has been a proud supporter of these tax credits, through our support of bipartisan measures that expand the EITC and CTC at the state and federal level, as well as HB24-1311, which established the Family Affordability Tax Credit.
